The Superbowl of Horse Races Comes To The Del Mar Racetrack
The Super Bowl of thoroughbred racing is coming to Del Mar for the first time ever on November 3rd and 4th. The Breeder’s cup has been hosted in 12 different cities in its 33-year history, but horse fans are in for a treat this year as they watch horses race around the famous Del Mar Racetrack. The Breeders’ Cup teamed up with the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) and invested more than $4.5 million to renovate the race track in preparation for the event. The Breeder’s Cup at Del Mar will feature enhanced seating and VIP experiences. For example, there are two temporary luxury trackside chalets with expansive ocean and starting gate views, private catering, wagering, and restrooms.
Attendance will be capped at 37,500 at the Breeder’s Cup Del Mar, even though the venue can hold 44,000 at capacity. This has been planned so horse race fans can watch experience the races in comfort.
There will be 13 Grade 1 races and purses and awards totaling $28 million at this year’s Breeder’s Cup with four Breeders’ Cup races held on Friday, and nine on Saturday.
Don’t forget to look around San Diego for the outdoor installation titled, The Art of the Horse, a collection of 20 life-sized horse sculptures painted by San Diego artists. This was done in honor of the Breeder’s Cup debut at the Del Mar Racetrack.
